We all know that police officers are just doing their jobs. We like safe roadways, but -- let's be honest -- no one likes to be on the receiving end of one of those safety-preserving citations.

Just once, maybe you'd like to see the cop hustle to answer your questions and hand over what you need.

Satisfaction can be yours, harmlessly and with the defense of good intentions, at the sixth-annual Tip-a-Cop Fundraiser for the Special Olympics

From 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Beef 'O' Brady's of Cooper City (8655 Stirling Road, Cooper City), officers from the Broward County Sheriff's Office will be waiting tables, running orders, and refilling beverages as "celebrity servers."

Your tip will be a donation to the Special Olympics. While some of you habitual speeders and red light runners might experience some schadenfreude, you are advised not to snap your fingers and call out "Garçon!"

After all, wouldn't want the officers remembering your name when they get back in their uniforms. (And maybe skip the beers so you don't get breathalized table-side.)

Debbie Ginsbur, store owner of the Beef 'O' Brady's in Cooper City, is happy to see the BSO back in her restaurant.

"Our annual Tip-A-Cop event means so much to our staff, the officers of the Broward County Sherriff's Office, and the local Special Olympic participants. We are proud to have held this event for 6 years now. It's always a fun afternoon, watching police officers follow the lead of our staff to get all of the guests their orders. And it's so nice to see how happy the Special Olympics participants get every time a donation is made. It's such a simple thing to do to make their dreams come true."

The Beef 'O' Brady's of Cooper City is hosting its sixth annual "Tip-A-Cop" event from 6 to 9 p.m., Wednesday February 6. Beef 'O' Brady's of Cooper City is located at 8655 Stirling Road in Cooper City. Special Olympics representatives will also be at Beef 'O' Brady's collecting donations. Call 954-689-4747, or visit beefobradys.com/mybeefs/coopercity.
