Homebrew Classes Starting At Craft Beer Cartel

Aspiring homebrewers in Broward will now be able to find a local resource to learn how to brew. Craft Beer Cartel, located in the Riverside neighborhood of Fort Lauderdale, will begin offering a monthly brewing class, with the first beginning on Saturday February 28th from 1 to 4 p.m.

Led by Jonathan "Jack" Jackman, the class is set to introduce new and semi-new brewers to brewing ingredients, the process of making a half mash brew, and different essentials to the brewing process.

The first class will focus on a dry-hopped Pale Ale, with subsequent months tackling new and different styles.

"The first week's class will feature a partial mash, single hop, dry-hopped Pale Ale with Motueka (a New Zealand hop with very unique characteristics)," Jackman told us.

"I would classify this class as a beginner to intermediate, although we'll be able and available to answer more advanced brewing questions. "

Jackman began his craft beer and home brewing journey in 2008 and has a accumulated a strong brewing background since. In 2011 he started managing the Funky Buddha Homebrew store as well as being a brewing assistant at the Funky Buddha Lounge. He then moved on to the new Funky Buddha Brewery in Oakland Park as an assistant brewer and cellerman. After moving away for a few months, he returned to South Florida and began working at Riverside Market and the Craft Beer Cartel.

"This homebrew class will be different from all other classes simply because it will be done the Craft Beer Cartel way," he espoused. "Our relaxed atmosphere and expertise in brewing will prove there is no better way to spend 3 hours on a Saturday than talking, tasting, and brewing beer. It will leave you thirsty for the intermediate to advanced class offered in the near future."

The class will cost $25 and includes a Craft Beer Cartel T-Shirt, snacks, and beer sampling throughout the event. Not a bad deal. To reserve a spot, check out the Craft Beer Cartel SquareUp page.

Craft Beer Cartel is located at 557 SW 12th Ave., Fort Lauderdale and is open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Call 954-541-3206.
