Forget Christmas -- today is National Grilled Cheese Day.

Whether you like it with brie and apple or you're a traditionalist and your sammy of choice has to be American on white bread (with a cup of tomato soup), the simple act of toasting bread and cheese together elevates both ingredients into something very close to heaven on earth.

To celebrate this momentous holiday, the Daily Melt at Coral Square is giving away free grilled cheese sandwiches to the first 100 people who show up when the shop opens at 10 a.m.

Be one of the first 100, and you'll get a lunch combo for free (one to a customer, please). That's a grilled cheese sandwich, soup shot or chips (go for the soup, you traditionalist), and a soda from the awesome Coke Freestyle machine where you can ask for a cherry/lemon Coke or an orange Sprite for the grand total of free! Nothing! Nada!

If you're in Delray and you're into grilled cheese of monster proportions, you might want to check out the seven-cheese grilled cheese at Dada. Made with a combo of cheddar, Swiss, goat, blue, sheep feta, American, and provolone and served with tomato soup, this could be the most decadent (and expensive at $20.50) grilled cheese of your life.
