When it comes to the prodigious city-within-a-city known as the mix-used development, the 65-acre monstrosity known as Metropica is going to make all large mall and retail shops like Sawgrass or the upcoming Miami Worldcenter look like ant farms.
Metropica, which is being built in Sunrise, will be a 4-million-square-foot center that will feature retail shops, restaurants, and residential areas. The development will feature 400,000 square feet of retail space that will house at least eight restaurants, a central park, a health and wellness center, a beach club, mini soccer fields and other recreational amenities. iPic, the in-theater dining movie theater that serves gourmet food and cocktails from celebrity chefs, announced last month that it will be opening up a chain at Metropica.
Metropica will also be home to eight residential tower. YOO Studio and Trillist Companies have partnered up to collaborate and design the first tower, which will be a 28-story condo that will feature 263 luxury units. The units will range in size of up 1,300 square feet, with penthouses 1,900 square feet. The condo units are going from $290,000 to $1 million each.
Architect Chad Oppenheim, landscape architecture firm EDSA, and architectural design firm CI Design are joining up with YOO to design the mega complex, which is being built across the street from Sawgrass Mills Mall.
The $1.5 billion dollar complex is expected to break ground this summer. Here are some renderings:
