Anonymous Donor Offers $5,000 for Capture of Burglars Who Killed Disabled Woman's Kittens

Last month, a Deerfield Beach disabled woman's kittens were killed by men who then beat the woman, cut her with broken glass, and took her safe. Following the crime, BSO announced that Crime Stoppers would pay anyone up to $3,000 for a tip that would lead to an arrest. And now, an anonymous donor has now sweetened the pot, saying he or she will add a $5,000 reward to whoever provides police with info that nabs the criminals.

On May 15, in the middle of the afternoon, two men walked in to the home of 61-year-old Deborah Plasse through a sliding glass door. The men, dressed in dark hooded sweatshirts and Halloween masks, aggressively ran up to Plasse and began demanding she hand over credit cards and jewelry. The men began to threaten to kill her pets if she didn't comply.

To show they meant business, the men took two of her kittens outside, killed them, and stuffed them inside paper bags, all while she watched in horror.

The men then grabbed Plasse, who suffers from a debilitating illness that forces her to use a walker, and threw her on the ground. The suspects then began ransacking her home and found a small gray safe.

Before leaving the home, the men took a broken shard of glass and sliced Plasse's face, arm, and stomach. They then sprayed paint on her as she lay bleeding on the floor.

According to BSO, the men left carrying the safe and bag with the dead kittens. The safe contained Plasses' medications but no valuables.

BSO said that one of the suspects is a short white male who spoke proper English. He wore a dark-blue hooded sweatshirt. The second, a taller man who spoke with a Spanish accent, wore a black hooded sweatshirt. A third suspect was not described in the report. Police believe the men to be in their late teens or early 20s.

Several days after the attack and burglary, detectives released a sketch artist's rendering of one of the possible suspects.

The suspect in the rendering is the short white male. The drawing shows him wearing a mask, but detectives say he has dirty-blond shoulder-length hair and blue eyes. 

BSO made the announcement of the new reward money on Friday afternoon.

"The donor made the $5,000 donation to Crime Stoppers of Broward County," BSO spokesperson Dani Moschella tells New Times.

The anonymous donation brings the reward money to $8,000.
