Development group Diplomat Golf Course Venture LLC has had its eye on building a 935 condo-hotel suites and a 262-unit condo tower near the Diplomat Hotel and Country Club in Hallandale Beach, and now that might become a reality. On Thursday, the company will unveil its plan in the city's Cultural Center, reports Florida Bulldog.

The project, which is estimated to cost $100 million, is still considered to be in its early stages. Hallandale Beach officials had been resistant to projects of these kinds of projects, even putting a moratorium on hotel permits back in May. But that lasted only a few weeks, after city commissioners voted 3-2 to lift the moratorium set up by City Manager Renee Miller.

Developers had warned city officials that not issuing hotel permits would do significant damage to the city's economy, and Mayor Joy Cooper agreed.

"I do not want to harm the synergy we have in this city," Cooper said at the May commission meeting. "I don't want to stop what's in the pipeline."

The big issue now will be how local traffic will be affected once construction begins.

“This is a significant development,” said Miller via Florida Bulldog. “There is fear from the community about traffic.” But, she added, “We will work with the developer to see how to mitigate the impact on the surrounding community.”

City officials say that the new hotel/condos will be called the Diplomat Hotel and Country Club, though it's unclear if the two properties are owned by the same company. But the two properties will share facilities, including allowing country club visitors to use the beach at the Diplomat in Hollywood Beach. Likewise, visitors at the Hollywood Beach Diplomat will be able to use the golf course at the facility in Hallandale Beach.

The Diplomat Golf Course Venture LLC unveiling is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Culture Center, located at 410 S.E. 2nd Ave., in Hallandale Beach. Hallandale’s Development Review Committee and its Planning and Zoning Board is also expected to review the project.

Should the project get initial approval following the unveiling, City Commissioners will look to vote on approving it sometime in 2016.

"We will learn more after the presentation,” said Miller.
