One year later, Subculture's Tacos & Hip-Hop is still going strong, says Scott, with anywhere from 300 to 600 people attending each month. And, it would seem, there are plenty of tacos.
"One year ago, we had this idea to gather our community for one night each month to share in an epic night of food, music, and drink," says Scott. "It wasn't long before we found it was something special. It's crazy how much it's grown over the past year. Expect to see a new food menu including a number of all-new Zipitio street tacos featuring shrimp, steak, chorizo, and mole chicken. There will also be a special El Salvadoran treat: cheese or Buffalo chicken-stuffed pupusas, a traditional dish of thick, handmade corn tortillas typically filled with a blend of cheese and/or meat.
A number of new, specialty beer-based cocktails will also be served up alongside the night's fare including a michelada (Dos Equis lager, tomato juice, and lime juice with a dash of hot sauce and tajin seasoning) and Bob Esponja AKA Sponge Bob (Dos Equis lager, lime juice, and pineapple juice with a dash of hot sauce and tajin seasoning).
As with past events, 10 percent of Tacos & Hip-Hop night proceeds will be set aside for the Tacos & Hip-Hop charitable fund benefiting local nonprofit organizations. Past donations have gone to Mama Maisha, Bridges Language Academy, and the Children's Home Society of Florida.
Tacos & Hip-Hop will take place from 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Friday, June 24. Subculture Coffee is located at 509 Clematis St., West Palm Beach. Call 561-318-5142, or visit subculturecoffee.com.
