Where to Get a Taste of Fall in Broward and Palm Beach

Even though the weather might not always feel like it, we still want to cozy up in a sweater from time to time. Preferably with a pumpkin beer in hand.

Sure, it's easy to hate on the season's most popular foodstuff, but pumpkin and spice aren't the only things we're craving this month. If you're feeling homesick for colder climes or you just want to pretend we have more than two seasons, here are a few spots in South Florida evoking some autumn nostalgia with food and drink that capture all those famous fall flavors.

4. Barrel Aged Beers
This fall, Miami's Biscayne Bay Brewing Co. has released four seasonal limited-release beers for the month of November using a variety of barrel-aging techniques including rum, scotch, bourbon, and whiskey barrels. That includes the La Salida, their first barrel release, a blend of the Miami Pale Ale and Double Nine Double IPA aged in Breckenridge Bourbon barrels for six months. Each of these craft beers will be available throughout the month of November at various craft-beer bars across South Florida or at Biscayne Bay Brewing’s taproom located at 8000 NW 25th St. in Miami.

3. Autumn-Inspired Alcohol (Flights)
To welcome in the cooler temperatures, Nitrogen Bar & Grill (6779 W. Indiantown Rd. #18, Jupiter) recently unveiled six autumn-inspired tasting flights that showcase bourbon, rye, gin, rum, scotch, and tequila. Each flight features three one-ounce tasting carafes from different parts of the world. The new flights are perfect companions for pairing alongside a fall-flavored dessert for après-dinner sipping.

2. Pumpkin Soup & Pumpkin Buttercream Cupcakes
Green Bar & Kitchen (1075 SE 17th St., Fort Lauderdale; 954-533-7507), will help you fall in love with this season’s flavors (and vegan food) with some of its newest dishes. Green Bar’s pumpkin soup will warm you up, even during those not-so-chilly fall days. The restaurant's "non-dairy fairy" is also baking up her maple cupcake topped with pumpkin buttercream and a cinnamon stick garnish as well as her traditional vanilla cupcake with cinnamon buttercream, garnished with candied apple and cocoa nibs. Just in case you're still hungry, the Rustic Burger is back this season, made with roasted sweet potato, garlic, onion, pecans, kale, lettuce, tomato, and chipotle mayo. The only thing you're (not) missing is the turkey.

1. T-Day Grilled Cheese
New York Grilled Cheese (2207 Wilton Dr., Wilton Manors; 954-564-6887) released one of its most popular annual specials last month, available through November at the Wilton Manors and Boca Raton restaurants: the Gotham Gobbler. It's made with housemade slow-roasted turkey that's layered with homestyle stuffing, made with their own artisan bread, drizzled with their cranberry aioli, topped with melted American cheese, and stuffed between two hearty country bread slices. It's served with a gravy dipper and — for all you die-hard soup lovers out there — the New York Grilled Cheese signature tomato bisque as well.
