If Twin Peaks morphed into a jukebox musical staged inside Davie's Round Up, the result might be something like Della's Diner: Blue Plate Special, the first sequel in a popular soap-opera parody series by Tom Edwards. On Christmas Eve in a diner atop a mountain that houses a secret nuclear-waste dump, long-suffering Della deals with a procession of calamities, accompanied by foot-stomping country-western-gospel music every time a visitor plops a dime into the jukebox. This being Southern-fried, blue-collar humor, there are references to preachers, paternity tests, and prison, offered up with cheeky satire and a side of grits. The musical opens Friday and runs at 8 p.m. Thursdays to Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays through November 4 at Broward College Central Campus' Fine Arts Theatre, located at 2501 SW Davie Road in Davie. Tickets cost $15 general admission or $8 for Broward College students and faculty. Call 954-201-6884, or visit broward.edu.
Thursdays-Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 2 p.m. Starts: Oct. 26. Continues through Nov. 4, 2012
