Thursday is New Times' second-annual Pairings, a food- and winetasting extravaganza at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts. The festival will gather food from South Florida's top chefs and pair it with unlimited wine in a posh setting. VIP tickets are no more, but general admission tickets are still available for $40 a head or $50 at the door.
If for some reason you're not planning on heading to Pairings, then you might be interested in a South Florida appearance by celebrity chef Paula Deen. Deen will headline a charity fundraising event for Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Broward County on Thursday night. The event, "An Evening With Paula Deen," will take place starting at 6 p.m. at the Bienes Center for the Arts at St. Thomas Aquinas High School (2812 SW 12th St., Fort Lauderdale). The self-made chef will talk about her rise to becoming one of America's most beloved television toques and will demo Southern food live on stage.
Tickets cost $150 per person and can be purchased by calling 954-577-7632.
