Put chef Vito Raneri and front of the house maven David Acker together and you've got Davito's Italian Restaurant (19635 State Road 7, 561/482-2323), dishing all your familiar Southern Italian dishes in a piazza-like dark wood and marble space in West Boca Raton.
Raneri, for more than 20 years chef at another West Boca Italian eatery, Dominic's, teamed up with Acker to open the pair's first restaurant, which slid into the spot once home to Anna's Kitchen.
The menu hardly breaks any new culinary ground, but for West Boca-ites
in the mood for pizza, pasta and other Italian staples, it's a
moderately priced option, with only one dish on the lengthy menu
breaking the $20 barrier.
As for the rest, there's fried
calamari and clams oreganata, baked ziti and eggplant parmigiana, veal
picatta and shrimp scampi, plus some 30 different Italian and California
wines and even Italian beers on tap.
