The 49th-annual Christmas on Las Olas
celebration on November 29 will turn five blocks of Las Olas
Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale into a winter wonderland, complete with ice skating, snow,
sledding, and some serious Christmas cookies battling it out.
If
you didn't know those innocent gingerbread men could fight, you've got
to come down and see for yourself, as spice drops, butter cookies, and
gingerbread men all vie for the top honor of Best Christmas Cookie on
Las Olas.
The Christmas Cookie Battle, sponsored by Broward/Palm Beach New Times, will allow you to get in on the action. Three local bakeries will bake their very best holiday cookies. For a $2 donation to the American Lung Association, you can try the cookies and vote for your favorite. Watch the Clean Plate Charlie blog for profiles of the participating bakeries, coming soon.
The winning cookie will be crowned victorious live onstage at 9:30 p.m. at Christmas on Las Olas.
This is a wonderful family event for a good cause. Where else can you eat cookies and play in snow in Fort Lauderdale?
Christmas on Las Olas runs from 5 to 10 p.m. on Las Olas Boulevard from SE Sixth Avenue to SE 11th Avenue. Admission is free.
