Poprox Presents Locos Por Juana This Saturday

Anybody been to Poprox yet? I keep hearing about it, so I'm gonna assume yes, though admittedly, I've yet to hit it up. I know, I know...bad music writer! Bad! I stand chastised. After all, the site itself explains quite frankly and without preamble, that Poprox is, in fact, "Miami's...

Anybody been to Poprox yet? I keep hearing about it, so I'm gonna assume yes, though admittedly, I've yet to hit it up. I know, I know...bad music writer! Bad! I stand chastised. After all, the site itself explains quite frankly and without preamble, that Poprox is, in fact, "Miami's premier live music venue." So why haven't I made the time? Well, in all honesty, I missed the opening and would have liked to check out Bachaco on Friday, but it was a friend's birthday and he wanted to go to LIV. So, I find myself scanning their upcoming events and what do I see? Hmm, next up is Locos Por Juana playing this Saturday. That looks promising.

It's no news to anybody that LPJ rocks the muthafuckin' hizzy every time they hit the stage. Whether you're catching them in an intimate setting like Jazid, where they take up a full corner of the lounge, or they're onstage in the middle of the street in a festival like Sunday on the Mile, the two-time Grammy nominated band is a guaranteed good time. Their urban Latin reggae hybrid, with flares of cumbia, rock, hip-hop, and ska is pretty much a sure bet to get you moving. Yeah, I think I've found just the right night to give Poprox the once over. Now if I can only keep from giving their bar the 37 over.

Saturday, May 16. Poprox, 2701 Collins Ave. (side entrance), Miami Beach. Doors open at 9 p.m., admission is free. Ages 18+ with ID. 305-744-2242; poproxmiami.com
