Not just a cover band, the Machine is the Pink Floyd experience. Not content to adequately recreate a thin smattering of greatest hits, like a live classic rock station, this New York-based sonic Ouija board delves deep into the history and legacy of one of rock and roll’s greatest bands, unearthing the hidden gems of both the Floyd back catalogue and Syd Barrett’s solo efforts. Any given show might include selections from any or all of the 16 Floyd studio albums, and find the band graciously accepting audience requests, or recreating a particular album in its entirety. Theater, spectacle, and the absurd are also indulged to their fullest, with elaborate staging and mind-warping psychedelic light shows to rival history. Through some 20 years of performance, the Machine has reached a level of technical mastery of the Floyd canon which allows the band to faithfully recreate every note of every song with flawless execution. But what’s really uncanny about these performances is the degree to which the band manages to capture the spirit and energy of Pink Floyd. Through some bizarre kind of technological necromancy, it really feels like a Floyd concert. Welcome to the greatest tribute show of them all; Welcome to the Machine. – Nicholas L. Hall
