When most people tell the tale of the Doors, Jim Morrison's enigmatic personality, poetic flare, and early death generally take center stage.

However, without Robby Krieger's blues-gone-psych guitar work, it is far less likely that the Lizard King would figure so prominently in the annals of rock history. After all, "Light My Fire," "Love Me Two Times," "Touch Me," and "Love Her Madly" all bear the name Krieger in the writing credits.

With the recent passing of organist extraordinaire Ray Manzarek, Krieger and drummer John Densmore are the only remaining members of the Doors.

Krieger will appear at Fort Lauderdale's Culture Room with his instrumental psych-rock project, Robby Krieger's Jam Kitchen, on Friday, August 30.

This is a rare opportunity to enjoy an intimate club performance by a founding member of one of the band's that truly impacted the course of music history. Krieger's band features a roster of vets that have served time in projects ranging from the band's of Frank Zappa to Chick Corea.

A jammed-out, trippy time is sure to be had by all with Krieger's deft guitar playing at the helm.

Robby Krieger's Jam Kitchen. With the Funky Nuggets. 7:30 p.m. Friday, August 30, at Culture Room, 3045 N. Federal Hwy., Fort Lauderdale; 954-564-1074; cultureroom.net. Tickets cost $20 plus fees via ticketmaster.com.
