Perhaps you're not up to speed on the goings on in the world of crunkchata. And that's understandable, because it's a name that Toby Love made up to describe a blend of hip-hop and R&B with the staccato guitars and island rhythms of bachata. Now, if you don't know who Toby Love is, then shame on you. 
A former backup singer for bachata's international poster boys Aventura, the young Puerto Rican from the Boogiedown Bronx stepped away from the group to start his own solo career in 2006, and hasn't looked back. He launched his self-titled debut later that year to the tune of a #1 hit single called "Tengo Un Amor" that dominated the Latin charts for over two months.
His next two singles went Top 10 and he earned four Latin Billboard
nominations for his efforts, two of which he took home (Tropical
Airplay Song of the Year, New Artist and the Latin Rap/Hip Hop Album of
the Year). Fall of last year saw him launch his sophomore attempt, and
the release of The Love is Back cemented his place in Latin music.
Whether you call it crunkchata or R&B-chata, or funk-chat-dizzle,
or...well, you get it....
The point is, it's a hip-shakin' good time. And if you want to experience it live, he'll be performing with his full band in Miami this Sunday night at L'Boulevard Café, providing plenty of opportunities to participate in that belly-to-belly grooving that bachata is known for.
