Local Label Limited Fanfare Has Big Things Planned for 2014

It's been a minute since County Grind caught up with Fort Lauderdale native and Limited Fanfare Records founder Brian Kurtz. The young record label has shown much promise in the few years of its existence by releasing stellar records from scuzzy Miami rockers Lil' Daggers, Mike Marsh's (former drummer for Dashboard Confessional) project called PAPER, noted national bands like Nashville-by-way-of Los Angeles garage rock revivalists The Ettes, and even an international act, Athens, Greece's shoegaze post-punk group Zebra Tracks.

Kurtz, under the Fanfare label, will have released 22 albums as of April of this year, and he expects to put out about 5 to 7 more by the end of 2014. We spoke with the always affable, budding music entrepreneur to find out what his label has in store for the year.

Currently Kurtz is excited about Ex Norwegian latest work. The group just released a new single called "Feelin' It" last Tuesday.

"Along with band leader Roger Houdaille, the band has a new female singer, Lucia Perez. The song will be on their upcoming fifth LP, Subtitled, due out in late Spring. The band is scheduled to appear on the Morning Show on the new cable network Fusion at 7 a.m. on Monday, February 10. And we're happy to say that the single received more than 8,000 plays last week!"

Also out on Limited Fanfare next week, on February 11, is the new single "Bye Bye Queenie" from Nashville, Tennessee's Denney and The Jets, an act Kurtz describes as rock 'n rolling Americana "bad-asses." Their forthcoming debut LP (their third release) will be titled Mexican Coke (And we all know Mexican Coke comes with real sugar and tastes tons better than the stuff we get in the states).

Kurtz tells us, "Limited Fanfare is co-releasing the record with our good

friends from California, Burger Records on vinyl in three colors, a CD, cassette, and digitally on April 8. Mexican Coke was produced by Andrija Tokic who also produced Alabama Shakes' Boys and Girls and Chris Denney himself. It was recorded and mixed by Andrija Tokic at The Bomb Shelter in Nashville."

Out April 1 is the debut, six-song EP from Sound Sleeper, A Perfect Sea For Drowning. Sound Sleeper features former members of Sunday Driver (Doghouse Records), MonstrO (Vagrant Records) and Atom Smash (Jive/Universal). The EP was produced by Mike Marsh (of the Avett Brothers, formerly of Dashboard Confessional) and was recorded in both Nashville and Miami. The CD release party is going down on March 28, at Churchill's Pub. Also playing that show are Lil Daggers, Ex Norwegian, Falseta, and Broken Tenure.

"That's what I have coming up for the next few months!" Kurtz says. "Basically, I want to get across to people that while I'm rooted and based in South Florida, I'm actively putting out records from bands all over the US (and world), and that Limited Fanfare is not a hobby like lots of other local labels. I am putting out 8 to 12 releases a year and forsee the reach of the label expanding largely in the next few years." We look forward to the limitless expanse of Limited Fanfare's reach.
