I just got a message from Kris Pabon of the Southernaires who sent me this link to their newest EP Doom Years. It's really really really amazingly good. It has frantic moments,

hilarious moments (including a random electro-soca breakdown in the

middle of "20 Miles") and some hints of Beach Boys, the Beatles, Os

Mutantes, Sunny Day Real Estate, the Band, and a bunch of other bits

and pieces. This is occupying my brain and music player right now.

For once ten thousand influences in a band have met without making an

annoying mish-mosh.  Everything is connected by a thick wad of actual

musicality and melodic awesome.
