We're not sure how many times we have to keep reminding you: We loveee Surfer Blood. We love 'em so much we'd probably surf in blood for them. Well, maybe not that much.
As merely innocent, loyal onlookers in the media circus that constantly engulfs the West Palm Beachers, we can't help but see a pattern forming, here. First we caught 'em locking lips on NYLON TV, and we thought, "Okay, insta-viral video." Then we saw them caught on camera in a warm embrace at the Oil.Spill.Benefit in Lake Worth a few short months ago, and couldn't help but wonder, "Are they doing this for the photograph? Or did our trusty Ian Witlen actually catch them pre-makeout?
The latest in a slew of what-will-they-do-next moments comes courtesy of gay website The New Gay. They interviewed Fekete in what they fronted as an "Ask a Straight Guy" column, but what they get him to reveal is truly jaw-dropping. Oh, and there's video, too.
The site does a decent job of summing up Surfer Blood's "beach rock" aesthetic before jumping into probing Fekete with questions like, "When did you first realize you were straight?" To which he answers,
"This is tough. I don't think I can recall an exact moment. Sometimes I still feel a bit confused... Don't tell my girlfriend please. Or my Dad."We can't tell if he's trying to be cute/funny or serious, but The New Gay takes the tension off, switching the subject to his least favorite stereotypes about straight people, obligations to the gay community, and the biggest challenges faced by a straight person in today's culture before asking, "If you had to 'go gay' for one member of the same sex, who would it be?" Fekete doesn't seem to flinch, stating,
"James Franco, no questions asked. The man is beautiful. Milk blew me away. I was giddy throughout the entire film. It was dark in the theater so nobody could see me blushing."We can't help but think of channeling Seth Rogen's character from The 40 Year Old Virgin, when he tells Paul Rudd, "I just want you to know this is, like, the first conversation of, like, three conversations that leads to you being gay. Like, there's this and then in a year it's like, "Oh, you know, I'm kinda gonna want to get back out there, but I think I like guys," and then there's the big, "Oh, I'm... I'm... I'm a gay guy now." But we won't. Promise.
James Franco man-crush aside, Fekete also mentions that people should come out to their shows because they're "bringing the beach to all of the big cities." As long as we cleared that up. Check out their performance of "Floating Vibes" for The New Gay below.
