Fans of guitar greatness in South Florida enjoyed a pretty serious string of fantastic shows in 2012: Steve Vai, Eric Johnson, Aerosmith, B.B. King, Brad Paisley, and what feels like countless other pickers and shredders. Hell, even the alternative six-string-sect had the opportunity to experience multiple encounters of the noise kind courtesy of Thurston Moore during Art Basel Miami Beach. If recent announcements are any indication of the year to come, the Sunshine State's six string cognoscenti are in for another year of excellence.

Mounting on the anticipation of scheduled performances by the Darkness and bottleneck wunderkind Derek Trucks and wifey Susan Tedeschi, the throne-chillin' king of Brit-blues, Eric Clapton, has announced a two-day tour stop at Hollywood's Hard Rock Live.

Clapton will be touring with the support of long-time band members Doyle Bramhall II on the backwards/upside guitar (which he plays like a complete beast), deep-pocket-dweller and snare-abuser, Steve Jordan, on drums, the one and only Willie Weeks holding down the low-end, Chris Stainton on keys/piano, and new additions, Paul Carrack, on keys/organ and Greg Leisz on pedal and lap steel guitars.

The backing band alone is worth the price of admission when one considers the members' individual contributions to his canon over the years, but in the context of Eric Clapton's show, the two-night residency in Hollywood has the makings of truly special occasions.
