Well, Hollywood Mayor Mara Giulianti is at it again, proving that she's a superior American and that those who oppose her are little more than small, rather disgusting, burrowing rodentia.
It started with a complaining e-mail from Angela Jackson, an activist who was arrested a while back in Hollywood during a peaceful protest. (If anyone wants to fill in the story on Jackson, please do so in the comments section. I'd like to hear it). Granted, Jackson's letter of civil protest, written on September 13, wasn't very nice.
Here it is:
Dear mayor, evoking 9/11 at the budget meeting before robbing thecitizens again was an insult. You should be tarred and feathered and rode out of town on a rail or thrown out of office. You are the original material girl w/your overinflated budget at citizens' expense. It seems plain you have no honor or conscience. shame shame In my opinion, the only difference between you and a prostitute is you suck money, taxpayer money.
See, told you it wasn't very nice. Here's Mara's reply:
I am proud of my years of Public Service and the good things that have happened for families, children, and neighborhoods under my leadership. Things do not always go perfectly, and I am not a perfect person. You, on the other hand, should be ashamed of yourself for sending this e-mail. I hope you aren't a parent, because children deserve a role model who would not even think of writing or saying such things. To correct the record, the Budget is the City Manager's. The City Commission collectively will adopt or change it, and I will have one vote equal with each of theirs. When we adopt it, we will each vote to do what we believe is in the very best interest of the City, whether or not it is the "popular" thing to do--as I know I have always done. And we know that the City Manager has worked diligently on this budget and presented what he firmly believes is in the best interest of the City and the citizens we serve. Additionally, to have ignored the anniversary of 9/11 would have been unpatriotic and wrong. Since the City empoyees and officials began our day with a remembrance ceremony at 8:30 am, and the President of the United States proclaimed 9/11 to be Patriot Day-- I felt then, and still do, that it was the right thing to do. The beautiful thing is that, since we are a Democracy, and I believe so strongly in our system, you have the civil right to speak or write the disgusting, uncivil things that you just did.
