Despite what you might have read in recent blog reports, it looks like we won't get any official word on the candidates to be the region's top prosecutor till next week. So say a couple of sources in the loop on this process.

Here's a document that lays out the rules for picking the next U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Florida. Today's the deadline for applications. In July, a panel (you can see its members here) will interview candidates for the position. That panel will pick its three favorites by August 5 and give the names to Sen. Bill Nelson, who will collaborate with the Obama administration before making a selection next fall. With former U.S. Attorney Alex Acosta off to teach at Florida International University, his second-in-charge, Jeff Sloman, will run the office. Sloman is a likely candidate for the post. A spokeswoman for his office refused to confirm or deny his filing an application.
