Tim Tebow More Popular in Florida Than God Is Nationwide, According to Poll Results

Tim Tebow is quite possibly more popular than God himself -- at least, he may be in Florida.

The former Florida Gator, Heisman Trophy winner, two-time BCS national champion, and current Denver Broncos quarterback is viewed favorably by 59 percent of Floridians, according to survey results released this afternoon by Public Policy Polling.

In July, the same polling firm asked American voters how they thought God was doing -- 52 percent approved.

It may seem like comparing God's job performance with Tebow's favorable rating is like comparing apples and oranges, but not according to PPP.

In fact, when it released God's performance-approval numbers in July, it compared his rating to Rupert Murdoch's unfavorable rating -- equating the comparison to "popularity."

So who likes Tebow? Almost everyone, except the superliberals.

Florida poll respondents who said they were "very conservative" liked Tebow the most -- 78 percent. Seventy-five percent of "somewhat conservative" Floridians gave the thumbs-up, as well as 56 percent of "moderate" folks, 46 percent of people identifying as "somewhat liberal," and just 30 percent of those who said they were "very liberal."

Tebow's favorable rating among the "very liberal" Floridians was the only time his rating even got close to being negative -- 30 percent said they like him; 30 percent said they don't.

Adding to Tebow's popularity in Florida, just 26 percent picked the Gators as their favorite college football team in the state, with 21 percent opting for Florida State and Miami and Central Florida both getting 11 percent. The rest of the schools polled in the single digits.

PPP also asked some non-Tebow questions, finding that Floridians would pick Al Gore by three points if they could do Bush versus Gore all over again, think gay couples should be allowed to adopt children (45 percent versus 43 percent who don't), and prefer the Tea Party to the Occupy movement 39-37.

PPP notes that Tebow's favorable rating is higher than any politician in Florida, and it will also be releasing Tebow's favorable rating in Colorado later this week.
