The story of Ponzi King Scott Rothstein's ties to Fort Lauderdale Chief Frank Adderley wasn't going away. And so the chief just issued a public statement:

As the Police Chief and a life long resident of the City of Fort Lauderdale, I associate and have developed relationships with a diverse group of individuals throughout the City including business and community leaders, various religious organizations, homeowners and residents. It is an important aspect of my position and it is through those contacts that I developed a friendly relationship with Scott Rothstein.

Like many people I was surprised to learn about the criminal allegations. If I had known or suspected that Scott Rothstein was taking part in illegal activity; I would have initiated an investigation and certainly would not have associated with him.

Since the discovery of the Scott Rothstein Ponzi Scheme, this agency has fully cooperated with and will continue to cooperate with the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) and the City's Office of Professional Standards (OPS). The outcome of their reviews will address many of the questions raised by the media, but until those reviews are complete it would be inappropriate for me to do so.
