In one of the bloodiest incidents in recent Palm Beach County history, three teenagers were murdered Monday in Mangonia Park. Nineteen-year-old Carley Chapman and 17-year-olds Martavious Brown and Se'sawn Danford were shot to death in a Mangonia Park apartment on Australian Avenue, Palm Beach deputies say.
Neighbors reported shooting just after 10 a.m. Monday at the Hampton Court Apartments. When deputies arrived, they discovered Brown and Chapman dead. Danford was wounded and died on the way to the hospital.
That brought to 50 the total number of murder victims in Palm Beach County this year.
Police had no explanation for the triple murder, but Chapman's father, Randy, said the young woman -- a graduate of Palm Beach Gardens High School -- had been hanging around with a gangster kid named Face, the Palm Beach Post reported.
"I did my damnest to try to steer her away from that crowd, but she was 19, and she wanted to do what she wanted to do," Chapman told the Post.
Chapman's stepmother, Paula Stewart, told the Post last fall that her stepdaughter was a friend of a boy shot in at the Riviera Beach city marina. Two were killed and six injured in that incident.
