FAU head football coach Carl Pelini has resigned, effective immediately, according to ESPN.

A press conference is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.

No reason has yet been given for Pelini's departure, but his 5-15 record in two seasons might be a pretty good indicator.

FAU has only won 2 games thus far this season,

Before taking over the Owls, Pelini worked with his brother Bo as defensive coordinator / defensive line coach at Nebraska.

UPDATE: Since the news of Pelini's resignation broke, things have gotten bizarre down at FAU, including a report that Pelini and another coach attended a "social event where pot was used."

There was also a report that the athletic department was shut down:

The press conference concerning Pelini's resignation is still being held at 4:00 p.m.
