A Lauderdale Lakes tow truck driver was gunned down in the middle of the day after he tried to tow away a car that was parked illegally.
The incident happened just before 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, in a parking lot of the St. Croix Apartments located at 4150 NW 34th St.
Broward Sheriff's deputies arriving on the scene shot and wounded the suspect, after he opened fire on the officers.

On Tuesday afternoon, the apartment management contacted All County Towing to send trucks to remove vehicles that were parked illegally on the property.
The company sent three trucks to the location, including one driven by the victim, 36-year-old David Herr, of Hollywood.
Once there, Herr began to tow a gold-colored car, according to a BSO news release.
The car's owner -- an unidentified man in his 30s -- apparently confronted Herr and demanded that he not tow away his vehicle. According to the report, the man pulled a gun and shot Herr several times.
Deputies arriving on the scene were then confronted by the suspect, who began shooting at them.
According to the BSO, at least one deputy returned fire, injuring the suspect.
No one else was injured.
Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue personnel tended to Herr, but the efforts to revive him failed. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect was airlifted to Broward Health Medical Center in critical condition.
BSO Homicide and Internal Affairs detectives are currently investigating the incident.
Per BSO policy, the deputy who shot the suspect will be place on administrative leave.
