Roseann Spera Arces decided to settle a minor car accident in a bank parking lot by beating up the other woman for being Jewish. That would be a felony.
Arces, 49, pleaded guilty and was sentenced Tuesday to 18 months' probation, instead of the maximum prison term of five years for evidence of prejudice while committing battery.
According to an arrest affidavit, the victim told the cops in November 2009 that she was backing out of a parking spot outside of a Bank of America location in Boca Raton when Arces also backed up her car, right into hers.
The State Attorney's Office says Arces "began
yelling religiously motivated slurs at the victim upon seeing her Star of David necklace," and police say Arces called the woman a "Jewish bitch" before starting to punch her.
Arces then started to kick her and at one point put both hands around her neck and began to choke her, according to the cops.
After she knocked the woman's glasses off her face and scratched her, witnesses broke up the fight, and the police showed up.
In addition to serving 18 months' probation, the court also ordered Arces to complete 75 hours of community service, take an anger management course, and write a letter of apology to the woman she assaulted.
