A quick review of the news you may have missed:
--The "very suspicious" files: Authorities have released the 911 tapes associated with the February killing of Trayvon Martin, a 17-year-old who was shot in Sanford by neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman. A highlight of the tapes, in reference to Martin, who was found to be carrying Skittles and a can of iced tea: "These assholes always get away." --Tragedy at Riverside Hotel: A pregnant woman was killed Saturday in a hotel pool restroom after a car veered off the road and smashed into the cabana. "There was no
braking, no screeching of tires, just a big explosion." [Local 10]
--Mixing sports metaphors: After former Colts quarterback Peyton Manning reportedly phoned the Miami Dolphins to decline their offer to put on the green and orange, the team is "applying the full-court press" on former Green Bay Packers backup Matt Flynn, according to the Sun-Sentinel. Flynn reportedly came to South Florida on Saturday morning after a meeting with the Seattle Seahawks last week. [Sun-Sentinel]
--More of a sport than cheerleading: Rebecca Oey, a 123-pound surgical technician from West Palm Beach, won $1,500 Saturday in the amateur division of the TooJay's competitive eating contest in Palm Beach Gardens. (She ate six and a half massive corned beef sandwiches.) A competitive-eating-organization leader told the Palm Beach Post that competitive eating is the fastest-growing sport in the world.
