Being labeled a "prolific porn collector" by the Broward Sheriff's Office doesn't sound like that much of a problem -- except for the fact that the sheriff's office says it was a child porn collection.
According to the BSO, a Deerfield Beach lifeguard spotted 66-year-old John Field videotaping youngsters washing off at the showers the day before Thanksgiving.
A sheriff's deputy who approached Field took a look at the videos and images on the camera, and sure enough, the cops say, most of the stuff on the camera was of unclothed kids -- most under 5 years old -- rinsing off at the public showers.
At that point, the sheriff's office says Field admitted to collecting child pornography for about 13 years.
A BSO detective went to Field's place in Coral Springs, where the cops say Field "referred to his lifelong attraction to children as 'much more than a fetish.'"
On one of a handful of media-storage devices Field handed over to deputies, the sheriff's office says there were more than 50,000 images of girls between the ages of 1 and 12 and about a dozen videos of boys engaged in several sexual acts.
The sheriff's office says Field never admitted to having any physical contact with children and eventually called for a lawyer.
Field was booked into the Broward County Jail on 100 counts of child pornography, although the sheriff's office says he could face more charges by the time its investigation is complete.
The BSO asks that if you have information about any kids who may have been harmed by Field to call them up.
