A Broward Sheriff's deputy shot and killed an Oakland Park man who was wandering the streets with a Winchester air rifle.
According to the BSO, the man was ordered by the deputy to drop the gun several times.
Instead, the man pointed the rifle towards the officer, prompting the deputy to open fire on the man.
According to the report, BSO received calls about a man walking around his apartment complex armed with a rifle.
The man, Jermaine McBean, 33, was spotted walking along the highway by an officer who immediately called for backup.
The responding deputy, Peter Peraza, a 12-year BSO veteran, then spotted McBean walk into the Green Tree Apartments complex at 5201 N. Dixie Hwy.
McBean then walked over to the pool area, which was empty.
According to the BSO, Peraza ordered McBean to drop his gun several times, but was ignored.
McBean then pointed the gun towards Peraza. Officer Peraza immediately opened fire.
McBean was taken to Broward Health Medical Center, where he died from his wounds, according to sheriff's officials.
No one else was injured in the incident.
According to the Sun-Sentinel, McBean has no prior criminal record.
McBean's family confirmed that he lived in the very complex he was shot.
Officer Peraza has been placed on an administrative assignment.
