Dania Beach Bank Robber Claiming to Have Bomb on Neck Shot by Police

Police responded to reports of a man who claimed to have a bomb strapped to his body at a bank on Dania Beach Boulevard.

Police were called about a man trying to hold up the Chase Bank at 300 E. Dania Beach Blvd. by claiming he had a bomb at around 11:51 Friday morning.

The Broward Sheriff's Office, SWAT and FBI responded to the call.

Initial reports that police have shot the suspect have been confirmed.

BSO spokesperson Keyla Concepcion confirmed that the suspect tried to rob the bank by threatening that he had a bomb strapped to his neck.

Concepcion also confirmed that deputies shot the suspect outside of the bank. Early reports are that the suspect is still alive.

Shortly after the standoff, the bank was evacuated. There were no further injuries.

A Winn-Dixie across the street from the bank was also evacuated while Dania Beach Blvd. was shut down.
