In case you haven't noticed: May is National Burger Month.
Like it or not -- and if you don't like it, you must be vegan -- right now, it's all about the burger.
From local bars and restaurants to national burger chains, everyone is running some kind of burger promotion or another. We couldn't be more ecstatic.
One highlight: The Office is now offering a special burger-and-beer pairing menu.
We spoke to the Office's general manager and beer connoisseur about the new deal and the logistics of pairing beer to food.
For each week of National Burger Month, the restaurant will be offering a $19 burger-and -paired-beer combo.
Although these burgers and craft beers are always on the menu individually, the spot decided to run the special pairing for the month and save diners a few dollars. Burgers normally range from $16 to $19 alone. Beers start around 6 bucks.
"There are two routes to go when pairing beer to food," said General Manager David Panella, "Complimenting or enhancing the flavors, like a big steak with a big Cab, or you could go the opposite route where you cut the flavors with the opposite end of the spectrum."
The Office burger with lettuce, tomato, onion, Office sauce, and aged cheddar ($16 normally), served with a Harpoon UFO, is the pairing through Wednesday. "Harpoon UFO is a wheat beer kind of along the lines of a Blue Moon, but with more zest of orange," said Panella, "It's very Florida by nature: very drinkable for warmer summer months. The zest, citrus, and acid cuts through the richness of the burger. This is one of those opposite pairings"
From this Thursday through May 22, the pairing will be Boss Burger, a 26-day dry-aged prime brisket burger with lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickles, and Office sauce (normally $19). "The Oskar Blues G-Knife Imperial Red Ale is a little more hoppy than the Harpoon," said Panella. "The Boss Burger is dry aged-beef has a little more beef flavor--a bolder flavor. The richer burger and beer with stronger flavors is a match-to-match sort of pairing. It's like apples to apples."
May 23 through May 31, the Office burger will be back, but paired with a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.
The Office is located at 201 E. Atlantic Ave. in Delray Beach. Call (561) 276-3600, or visit theofficedelray.com.
