The locally owned and operated restaurant is the cornerstone of any local dining scene. However, we shouldn't totally count out the chains either. RA Sushi in Pembroke Pines might be part of a national chain but with only 24 locations nation-wide -- three in Florida -- they aren't exactly McDonald's and after years in the same location, they become as much a part of the community as any mom and pop.
Tonight, RA Sushi in Pembroke Pines is celebrating its fifth year as a part of the local community. Sure, there will be ninjas and geishas, djs and drink specials, but there will also be a raffle to support the Young at Art Museum.
Aaron Bodden is the General Manager at the Pembroke Pines location - the biggest and largest grossing location in the country. He says the RA tries to be a different kind of sushi restaurant.
"We're not like your traditional sushi place. We are fun and we try reflect that in everything we do," says Bodden. "The party is ninja themed so the staff will all be dressed like ninjas or geishas and we'll have ninja break dancers."
There will be specials on cocktails, beers, sushi rolls and tapas throughout the event and 100 percent of the food specials will directly benefit the Young At Art museum. Specials include: Kirin & Kirin Light Bombers ($7), Hakutsuru Draft ($5), Sapporo & Sapporo Light ($4) Emperor's Cucumberita ($7), Baby Umami ($6), and the Blushing Geisha ($6).
Additionally, raffle tickets will be sold for $5 each to benefit the museum. Prizes include RA Gift Certs, Sushi Sake 101 classes, a family membership to Young at Art Museum, and custom cake by Cakes, Desserts & Beyond.
"The raffle will help support arts in the community for kids. With so many communities cutting back, art is getting killed in schools," says Bodden. "Young At Art helps kids express themselves."
Guests are invited to get in on the Japanese themed costuming. Come as a ninja or geisha or just slip on a comfy kimono.
The specials, the DJ, and the break dancing ninjas will keep the anniversary festivities going from 7 p.m. to close tonight.
