When it comes to daytime dining on Las Olas, you're more likely to find yourself in the power-lunch scene than an affordable cafe -- unless you happen to stumble into the Subway, of course.

That's not the case anymore.

Daily Melt recently opened just off the main drag of the boulevard. We stopped by the newest outpost of beloved South Florida chef Allen Susser's casual (and childhood favorite) concept.

Situated just around the corner from YOLO, it's one of the few places in the area in which you can get in and out for under ten bucks. Sandwiches range from $3.95 to $7.95 and include a wide range of ingredients.

Classics are available with selections like the original with grilled American cheese on sour dough ($3.95); tuna melt with white albacore, cheddar, and Roma tomato on rye ($6.95); and ham & Swiss with grainy mustard and hot and sassy pickles on ciabatta ($6.95).

More creative flavor combinations are offered in the chef's favorite and specialty sandwiches sections of the menu. The prosciutto & mozzarella has slow roasted tomato and basil pesto on ciabatta ($7.95). The Granny Smith incorporates fresh apple with Virginia ham, cheddar, and muenster on French demi ($6.95). The BBQ pulled pork melt contains Swiss, caramelized onions, jalapeno chips, and KC barbecue on French demi ($6.95).

Try the white truffle bacon cheddar ($7.95). It has truffle butter (rather than the fake oil), crisp bacon, cheddar, provolone, and Roma tomato on sour dough.

Salads are also offered for the diet conscious. Options range from quinoa and kale with tomato, cucumber, goat cheese, and almonds ($7.95) to a chef's salad with roasted turkey, Virginia ham, egg, Swiss, and cheddar ($7.95).

For an extra $2.95, guests can opt for a "full melty" with a drink and shot of soup or chips.

A few new takes on childhood favorites are offered for dessert. The S'More features charred marshmallow, graham cracker, and Hershey's chocolate bar ($4.95). The cripsy banan nutella melt combines fontina and cinnamon on sour dough French toast ($4.95).

The eatery also serves breakfast, with some healthy (ish) and other downright indulgent menu items. On the lighter side, the veggie frittata combines egg, tomato, mushroom, spinach, onion, and provolone on multigrain bread ($5.95). The maple bacon melt uses crispy bacon, maple syrup, egg, and cheddar on sour dough ($5.95).

Daily Melt downtown Fort Lauderdale is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner; Monday through Friday 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

It's located at 350 SE 2nd St. in Fort Lauderdale. Call 954-713-6358, or visit dailymelt.com.
