It's official: summer is pretty much here. While the rest of the country is getting excited to finally pull out the shorts and open all the windows and doors, we're starting to close up shop.

Assuredly, your A/C is going to be blasting for the next 6 months.

Just as your battening down your house, many local farmer's markets are shutting their doors for the season. Marando Farm's is not. The Fort Lauderdale is actually in the process of expanding, by bringing a new weekend artisan market. Read on for details.

Starting last Saturday, Marando Farm's brought in a wide selection of vendors from all over South Florida. The goal is to get people to enjoy the atmosphere of the farm. "I want to be a destination," said Co-Owner Chelsea Marando, "Where people can sit and have a picnic, and make a day out of it."

Last weekend was the official start to the artisan market. About 20 vendors were onsite selling items like ice cream, jerky, spices, sweet and savory crepes, fresh cut flowers, coconut water, nuts, pickles, and more. The goal is to eventually expand to meet most of the shopping needs of customers. "We're going to take 30 to 40 [vendors] eventually. We have a waiting list now, but we're going to build it slowly," said Marando.
