For the most part, conferences are an absolute bore.

After all, how many people actually want to sit around listening to boring speeches all day long? We most certainly do not.

That being said, when you get something speaking about doing something inspiring, something that could potentially change the world as we know it, that's actually exciting.

In terms of stimulating speeches and conversations, TED talks reign supreme.

This Friday, TEDxJupiter is taking over the Max Planck Institute for Neuroscience and South Florida local food guru Jason "Farmer Jay" McCobb is going to present.

From 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, TEDx Jupiter is bringing together 12 speakers, many of whom are specialists in the local food system and environmental issues.

The lecturers include Stan Bronson, executive director of the Florida Earth Foundation; Jeramy Pritchett, editor-in-chief of Blindfold Magazine; Farmer Jay; Dr. Jean Wihbey, provost, Palm Beach State College; Dr. Roy Periana, director, Scripps Energy and Materials Laboratories; Keith W. Rizzadi, chairman of the marine fisheries advisory committe; Share Ross, C.E.O. of shareross.com, creativity expert; Corrine Lasmesas, PhD - Scripps Research Institute; Pete Marzili, performance artist; Andrew McClary, C.E.O. High Voltage Hotrods, Inc.; Gabriela Cora, M.D. M.B.A. - Executive Health and Wealth Institute; and Pedro Reis-Rodrigues, PhD Scripps Institute.

Ernie Lefler put together the independently organized TEDx event, which are licensed and regulated by TED.

According to him, "All the TEDx presentations are reviewed by TED and, because of that, Farmer Jay and the other speakers may one day find themselves speaking at a an actual TED event."

While not every speech will be related to food, McCobb plans to speaks about "Better food for a better way," in which he'll be telling the story about how he got into farming and what he's learned along the way.

The auditorium has room for just 100 guests; tickets can be purchased for $75 per person.

For those unable to make it, the entire day's talks will be broadcast live on the website.
