We are trying to think of something that sounds more uniquely Floridian than getting food delivered to your boat, but we're having a hard time coming up with anything.

Valet parking at the beach? Tan senior citizens in banana hammocks? People handing out mangos at the office? Oh, Florida.

E&J's Sandwich Shop in Delray Beach is now offering dockside delivery of its entire menu.

Think of it like a sail-through instead of a drive-through or the marine version of Sonic's car-side service.

The way it works is pretty simple.

"Pull up to the dock with your boat, order from the menu, and we run the food out," says E&J's manager, Stephen Clark. The dock can fit about 12 boats at a time; it depends on the size of the boat though, obviously."

The dock itself is located just south of the Atlantic Avenue bridge that goes over the intracoastal and is actually part of E&J's neighbor, Deck 84, but they're both owned by Rapoport Restaurant Group.

According to Clark, you just ask Deck 84 for one of E&J's menus, then place your order. All dockside deliveries come with a complimentary drink. The program started only a few weeks ago, but E&J has already made quite a few dockside deliveries.

As the name suggests, sandwiches and subs dominate E&J's menu, but about a month ago, it started offering burgers. Options include the TexMex, made with hot peppers, banana peppers, and cheese ($8); the Tybee Burger, made with slaw, Thousand Island dressing, and cheese ($8.50); the Sloppy Moe, made with bacon, sautéed onions, slaw, and Thousand Island dressing, topped with Cheez Whiz ($8.50); or the Parmesan Burger, made with marinara sauce and Provolone cheese, topped with Parmesan cheese, on a hoagie bun ($8.50).

The shop is still developing its burger repertoire, but despite some of the fancy styles already on offer, Clark says it's not about the toppings anyway.

"All of our burgers are selling very well," he says. "We use a very high-grade grind of meat, so it's really more about the flavor of the burger itself than any customization."

If you are not fortunate enough to be a member of the boating community, no worries. The Delray Delivery Dudes can bring your sandwich or burger order to your front door, no life vests required.
