When you think of the Guinness Book of World Records, what comes to mind? Food-related feats, maybe?

Take the world's most expensive hot dog, an 18-inch beef frank with special moose cheese that goes for a whopping $145.49 at Capitol Dog in Sacramento, California. Or Texas' Rob Williams, who holds the world record for making a bologna, cheese, and lettuce sandwich (complete with olives on a cocktail stick) in less than two minutes -- using just his feet. Or how about a feel-good record, like the world's largest pizza delivery organized by Pizzas 4 Patriots, who sent 30,000 pizzas with DHL Express to our troops in Afghanistan.

If you've ever dreamed of setting a world record -- and one that's food-related too -- this weekend's Great Cupcake Challenge might present the perfect opportunity. The PGA National Resort & Spa in Palm Beach Gardens is looking to set a record of its own and has invited the public to help make baking history as it attempts to create the world's largest cupcake wedding cake.

Also known as the official Guinness Book world record holder for world's longest ice cream sundae, the PGA National Resort & Spa has enlisted the help of local "cupcaketeers" as they attempt to make world history by creating a 12-foot monstrous dessert cake. Event participants will be given a decorating kit that will allow them to join in on the fun.

The Great Cupcake Challenge will be taking place Saturday, August 9, from noon to 4 p.m. at the PGA National Resort & Spa ballroom. Registration for the event begins at 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the cupcake decorating runs from noon until 4 p.m. General admission is $30 per family with advance registration or $35 at the door.

Family activities sponsored by the Home Depot and Palm Beach Children's Hospital will be taking place during the event and include a bounce house, train ride, face painting, petting zoo, balloon artist, as well as arts and crafts.

The best part: Once it's done, you can eat it.

PGA National Resort & Spa is located at 400 Avenue of the Champions in Palm Beach Gardens. Visit the PGA National website, or call 561-627-2000.
