Coffee is finally starting to become a "thing" throughout South Florida. Not that getting caffeinated hasn't been a thing for a while, and expensive espresso drinks are nothing new either.
But we're not talking chi-chi chain coffee places here. When we say it's becoming a "thing," we mean a thing to be respected, an art. We are talking about caring about where your beans come from, how they are roasted (locally, of course), and then the care with which they are prepared.
The signs are all there. First, craft-beer haven Tap 42 announces it is getting into the coffee clutch with soon-to-open Warsaw Coffee. And now, Bar Stache 1920's Drinking Den, downtown Fort Lauderdale's own version of a speakeasy, will be serving Panther Coffee.

Beginning December 15, Stache will open at 7 a.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. on Saturday to serve Miami's Panther Coffee to the Fort Laudy locals.
"Panther Coffee is the most unique and desirable coffee product around," states Jeff John, president of 3J Hospitality, owner/operator of Stache. "Stache has the reputation of providing only the highest-quality products, and Panther Coffee only adds to that reputation."
Panther Coffee specializes in small-batch roasting -- which you can witness for yourself if you make the pilgrimage to Wynwood -- and cold brews featuring Nicaraguan coffee and East Coast espresso blend, among other beans sourced from around the world.
Panther was, in fact, one of USA Today's 20 Top Coffee Shops in America.
The baristas at Stache have already begun their Panther training and will be serving all the espresso, cold brew, Franch press, cold brew, and pour-over methods that allow the roasty glory of Panther's brew to roar through. It will leave you purring with happiness. (Those are all the cat jokes we'll be making. Rawr! OK, that's it. Really.)
They'll also be serving Broward's own Rhino Doughnuts, the Fort Lauderdale-based gourmet doughnut shop. Now you can enjoy a Rhino Horn (their version of the doughnut-croissant hybrid that swept the arteries of the nation this year) with your Panther latte.
Stache will also serve a menu of other pastries and tasty treats, all with a side of free Wi-Fi.
Bonus: If you're not a morning person and prefer your coffee Irish, you can order that up in the dark of night too.
