Forbes Billionaire Selling Rare $2.3 Million Bugatti Veyron Vivere in Fort Lauderdale

For some of us, one fancy car is indistinguishable from the next. They all blend together in a giant blob of things-we-can’t-afford. Whether it costs $300,000 or $1 million, a sports car is just another item on this growing list — right after student-loan debt and a new water heater.

In Fort Lauderdale, the New Auto Toy Store is known for its fleet of superexpensive and superflashy sports cars. Since opening more than 30 years ago, the shop has sold over a billion dollars worth of cars - which isn’t too surprising, considering that the inventory is one big mashup of Maseratis, Lamborghinis, Aston Martins, McLarens, and Rolls-Royces.

But one item on the shop's inventory — or its price tag, really — is causing sports cars aficionados to do a double take: a 2008 Bugatti Veyron Vivere. It’s one of only two on the planet and the only one in the USA. It’s listed at $2.3 million and sitting inside the shop on Federal Highway right here in Fort Lauderdale. (To put that into perspective: For $2.3 million, a person could buy 20 Lamborghinis. Currently, the second most expensive car at the New Auto Toy Store is a 2012 Ferrari, listed at $309,000.)

Jonathan Frank, owner of the New Auto Toy Store, explains that the car was produced in 2008 and was originally silver. In 2014, Tolga Tarak of Emilia Motors spearheaded the car's redesign, sending it to Mansory, a well-known elite car designer in Germany, for a complete renovation. It took over six months and cost 1 million euros, but the car now has its rare Linea Vivere design, which is how the car now has its white and black carbon fiber exterior.

Currently, the car has 10,417 miles on its odometer. Tarak, a business associate of the New Auto Toy Store, listed the car for sale in late March. Frank couldn't divulge too much about the previous owner, except to say that he was one of the Forbes Top 100 Billionaires (and Tarak's mentor).

The car has a top speed of 255 miles per hour. It's the fastest production car in the world. "At any speed, you hear everything but you don't feel anything. There are no gear changes, jerks, no jumps, nothing," Frank says. "Considering there's over 1,200 horsepower, this is pure exhilaration."
Bugattis get their price tags because of their rarity. For example, last year, Lamborghini sold 3,200 cars. Frank explains that Bugattis have only been in production for the past ten years. In that time, only 475 cars were created worldwide. 

"The moment you get on the road, or anywhere you go, you are an instant celebrity," Frank says. "The feeling of driving this car can only be described as driving an F16 fighter jet in a supercar form."

The New Auto Toy Store sells any car as long as the prospective buyer can come up with a 35 percent down payment. So for a pre-owned Ferrari or Lamborghini, that's is only $35,000 per $100,000 of sale price. On this Bugatti, however, 35 percent of the $2.3 million price tag equals an $805,000 down payment.
