Florida Atlantic University opens a new movie house this week that quite simply may become South Florida's home to independent cinema. The Living Room has four theaters that seat 50. Indie, foreign, and classic films will show every weekend. A café will serve gourmet food, coffee, beer, and wine.

And based on the lineup, things look promising. The movies showing this weekend are all new to South Florida and represent a group of indie flicks better than what's shown at most Manhattan theaters. The films include a doc destined for an Oscar bid, a stoner flick from Tokyo, and a dance film from Brazil.

Welcome to town, Living Room.
