No. 6: Kobe Beef Sliders From Steak 954
Stephen Starr’s Steak 954 is as straightforward as a steakhouse gets. But it’s the
execution of every single element that makes the place fantastic. Starr
has perfected the slider at his Philadelphia eatery Barclay Prime, and
they’re now one of his signature dishes. You get two of them for $16
(that’s eight bucks a swallow), but they’re terrific: set on buttery
little brioche buns with little else
to distract from the steamed, chopped Kobe. One of them has a little
layer of sweet, caramelized onions, the other a bit of savory melted
Gruyère. Yes, there isn’t another restaurant in South Florida in this
league if you’ve got a yen for pricey meat, fresh seafood, and potatoes.
