No. 42: Escargots From Aruba Beach Cafe

Everything sounds better in French. For example, if asked, “voulez-vous manger un escargot?” you may be inclined to say yes, in part because it sounds similar to “voulez-vous coucher…” (get your mind out of the gutter!) and partially because, it sounds more appealing than “Do you want to eat a snail?”

Let’s face it, eating gastropods isn’t everyone’s bag, but if you are a fan of escargots or if you’re willing to give it a try, Aruba Beach Cafe in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea is a good place to go. Known for its tropical menu, Aruba Beach Cafe doesn’t scream “classic French cuisine,” but this Favorite 100 dish is not to be missed!

Aruba’s escargot is served with the traditional butter and garlic, but it also adds a unique blend of herbs, Pernaud, a French anise-flavored liqueur, and fresh tomato. The dish is accompanied by a freshly baked French baguette that is crusty on the outside, cloud-like on the inside, and perfect for sopping up every last bit of buttery goodness off of your plate. Feel free to lick your fingers when you’re done — we won’t tell!

Voulez-vous manger un escargot? Absolument!
