Jumping on the ever-growing food truck bandwagon is Curbside Gourmet, the creation of former TV-movie caterer and private chef Rick Simek and culinary school graduate Mary Cheatham, who aim to put the now way-trendy farm-to-table ethos on four wheels.
The duo’s truck, outfitted with a complete professional kitchen at the cost of $100,000, is expected to roll into West Palm’s Rybovich Marina later this week for a soft opening, before deploying at four different West Palm locations throughout the day on a regular rotation.
To help customers “get over the impression of a roach coach,” Simek says
that Curbside Gourmet will focus on using as many fresh, local products
as possible, from heirloom tomatoes to Swank Farm greens, as well as
all-natural poultry and Black Angus beef.
Simek and Cheatham’s
truck, the first such mobile kitchen in Palm Beach County, will be open
for breakfast, lunch and afternoon snacks, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The
morning menu features Greek-style yogurt with home-made granola and
fruit, a breakfast burrito and frittata of the day, while midday
offerings include Swank Farms salad, crabcake sliders with tarragon
aioli, mojo pork tacos, and Angus and turkey burgers with hand-cut
fries. Prices are pocket-friendly too, with the costliest item a trio of
crabcake sliders for $10.
