5. Meet the Artist series launch
Cheese Culture in Fort Lauderdale recently revamped their space, adding a wine bar and expanding on their already-interesting repertoire of events. Friday night — as in, tonight — they’re introducing a new “Meet the Artist” series where art and music are matched with wine and cheese. This week kicks off with an introduction to Katlyn Hubner and music by guitarist Carlos Gonzalez. The event is 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.
4. Seasonal favorites are back in full swing
In another sure sign of autumn, farmers’ markets are making a return. This Saturday, the Boca Raton Green Market opens for the season from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The popular weekly market returns to its location at the corner of S. Federal Highway and S. Mizner Boulevard in Royal Palm Place. In addition to vendors selling plants, produce, and prepared foods, the market hosts live music. This weekend’s entertainment is courtesy the Sheffield Brothers Band.
Another seasonal favorite, the SunTrust Sunday Jazz Brunch, will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday in Riverwalk Park in downtown Fort Lauderdale. Local jazz artists will hit four stages and brunch will be served in the Einstein reception room and the Peck Courtyard. Friendly, leashed dogs are welcome to attend.
3. Cheers for Charity opening event
There are six days of events involved in Cheers for Charity Las Olas, which begins this Sunday and aims to raise money for six local children’s charities. On Sunday, the week launches with sushi and sake at the Riverside Hotel in downtown Fort Lauderdale. The $125 ticket price benefits the Joe DiMaggio’s Children’s Hospital Foundation. The event is 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tickets are available online.
2. Delray Bash
Since the ever-growing number of restaurants in Delray Beach makes it damned near impossible to hit all of them in a reasonable timeframe, events like Saturday’s Delray Bash simplify things a bit. Hit up the event from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at Old School Square and sample small bites from a wide variety of the city’s more popular spots. Admission is $50 in advance or $60 at the gate. Read “The Delray Bash Returns on October 6: Food and Booze for a Good Cause” to see who’s expected to attend the event.
1. Taste of Parrotdise
Parrotheads and otherwise are invited to the beachy-themed party that is Taste of Parrotdise, from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday in the International Game Fish Association Fishing Hall of Fame & Museum in Dania. The cost is $25 for regular admission, plus a $1 PayPal fee if you purchase your ticket online. VIP tickets are $40 each and include extra drink and raffle tickets. The event features food and drink (as in, adult beverage) tastings, live music, silent auction, and a cake-decorating contest. The event — hosted by Two Men and a Truck Fort Lauderdale and Barefoot Children Parrot Head Club — will benefit the American Cancer Society of Broward County.
