Slow Foods puts on Sunday brunch at Lola’s on Harrison this week —

Slow Foods being the group that promotes sustainable growing, ranching

and fishing; artisan and traditional food production, and basically

anti-corporate foods around the globe.

Guest chef working with Lola’s Michael Wagner is Poppy Tooker from New Orleans – a teaching chef who started projects like edible schoolyards in New Orleans and who promotes community hands-up work to feed the needy. She’s all about tradition, too, and has a killer recipe for pralines. The brunch is $39.95 for non-Slow Foods members; tickets limited. An impressive menu from Florida farmers, ranchers and fishermen includes rock lobster frittata, short rib Benedict, banana-stuffed French toast, organic goat cheese blintzes and more. Brunch starts at 10:30 a.m. at Lola’s on Harrison; call (954) 927-9851 to make reservations.

Another wine and food dine-around – this one for the American Red
Cross Haiti Relief and Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation is
Saturday night in Palm Beach Gardens. It’s at the Store Self Storage
and Wine Storage, 10110 Military Trail.

More than 16 chefs and restaurants from surrounding area including
Spoto’s, Sushi Jo, Zuccarelli’s, Vic & Angelo’s, Talay Thai and
Café Boulud will offer tastings such as crab bisque and white chocolate
bread pudding, oyster shooters, paella, pad Thai to go along with wines
from Deerfield Ranch, Robledo Family Winery, Black Coyote Chateau,
Tobacco Road Cellars and other domestics.

The design/art/fashion/music part is free and starts at 3 p.m.; $30
gets you into the food and wine event from 5-8 p.m. Or, bring the chums
and buy a block of tix for $25 each (five or more). Call 561-627-8444
for info and tickets.
