The Place: Holloway’s Pub, 504 Via De Palmas, Boca Raton. 561-361-8445
The Hours: 4 to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The Deal: Wells and domestic beers are $2.50, imported beers are $3.50, and Guinness’s are $4.50.
The Digs: Holloway’s fills the rare casual-Irish-Pub slot in otherwise ostentatious Boca Raton. All the dark woods, old Guinness ads, and pictures of Eire might make you feel like you’ve been transported to a comfy little drinking nest in the countryside.
But the Ten Commandments in the middle of the shopping plaza, the high-energy dance music piped out of the ground in the parking lot, and the FAU football helmet behind the bar remind you that you’re still in Boca.
Inside, however, the music rocks and
the TVs play whatever game is on. There are also three dart boards
and a pool table if you want some physical activity. In addition there
are regular Karaoke nights on Tuesday and Saturday.
The Verdict: Every town has a bit of Erin in its mitts.
Holloway’s is one of the spots in Boca where you can get your dose. If you’re looking for a cheap
place to drink in a familiar-feeling environment, then this is the location. Have
a few Guinness’s and pretty soon you’ll also be talking politics and
history in a voice more authoritative than it should be, or belting out your tried and true version of “Danny Boy.”
