By now, it’s no secret that Chick-fil-A and the LGBT community are having trouble in their relationship.
While Chick-fil-A has never hidden the fact that it’s a company with deep Christian ties, things have come to a head in the past week or so with the company’s president and COO, Dan Cathy, making it very clear in an interview with the Baptist Press that he is extremely pro-traditional family. In other words — against same-sex marriage.
What’s more alarming is the fact that Chick-fil-A regularly donates millions in company profits to antigay groups.
According to Equality Matters, Chick-fil-A, through its WinShape
Foundation, has donated more than $4 million to organizations with antigay
agendas in the past three years alone.
Yesterday, former Gov. Mike Huckabee called for National Chick-fil-A Awareness Day. According to reports, hundreds of thousands of people
who agree with the restaurant chain’s message supported the company by
eating chicken sandwiches. Now, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against
Defamation (GLAAD) is calling for its own protest — in the sweetest way possible.
This
Friday, August 3, is being claimed as National Same-Sex Kiss Day. At 8
p.m. that day, same-sex couples are being asked to walk into their
local Chick-fil-A and share a kiss. No picket signs. No yelling. No name-calling. Just an old-fashioned kiss. As the National Same-Sex Kiss Day Facebook page states:
“Let’s show Chick-fil-A that EVERYONE deserves to be able to fall in
love, start a family, and take their children to eat fried chicken after
a soccer match.”
