Whatever you choose to do on New Year’s Eve, please don’t drink and drive. There’s no worse way to start off 2011 than dead. Hangovers last a day or two, but dead, last time we checked, is a lot longer.
Here’s an idea: take the bus. Broward County Transit routes are bound to be filled with characters that night. Lampshade hats for all.

• Over the past years, the “Big Fat Greek New Years Celebration” at Athena By The Sea, 4400 Ocean Dr., Lauderdale by the Sea, 954-771-2900, http://www.yolorestaurant.com/home.html has been a big-ass party. Enjoy indoor/ outdoor dining as the whole block in front of this beachy restaurant will be closed. There’ll be live music and a belly dancer. Food includes flaming cheese appetizers, surf and turf, and a bottle of champagne for $75 per person.
